WAFB 9 News Headlines
I
When you hear stories about juvenile prisons in our state,
you get the feeling that something is very wrong. The latest
incident is the murder of a young prisoner in Bridge City.
Authorities suspect a guard in the case. That brings us
to today and to a hearing in Federal Court. The question
is whether a federal judge has the authority to move prisoners
out of a facility where they might be in danger. Right now,
nobody knows the answer. A lot is at stake here including
who is liable when lawsuits are filed over the treatment
of our youngest prisoners. We’ll have the story for
you tonight.
I’m going to sound very cynical when I tell you that
once again the men who estimate how much money the state
has to spend told us they found more money. Every year we
hear the gloom and doom prediction of budget cuts, shortfalls
and closures. Then, at the very end of the Session a miracle!
Money is found to fill the holes. I am assured that tonight’s
story is different. I’ll let WAFB’s Jennifer
Hale explain how.
