A 29-minute experimental video, “Salt” deals with identity and mimesis, memory and history, routes and paths for people, goods and commerce, and the residues of a colonial world that structures the modern city. Having begun with the discovery of a photo album of artist’s grandfather, showing a secretive time in his life, his amateur photography as he worked as a radio operator on a merchant marine ship, “Salt” attempts to trace his footsteps in the past and in present day Chicago.
